Headphones in, volume up. We flew to California to take BMW's fastest production model up the mountain switchbacks on the outskirts of Palm Springs. 0-100km/h? 3.7 seconds. Top speed? 305 km/h. Of course, we did not come close to those limits, but with the 6.6-litre V12 wailing and the exhaust notes echoing on the rocks, the grin never faded.
